MECHANICAL CELL DESIGN ENGINEER
Department: Engineering.
Your role: Mechanical Cell Design Engineer is responsible for overseeing mechanical activities, including testing, modeling, and assessment to ensure compliance with regulations. This role is responsible for translating client requirements into mechanical specifications and leading module/cell design and validation for optimal mechanical integration.
Main functions:
Mechanical Characterization
- Conduct mechanical testing such as cell swelling characterization under charge/discharge, assessment of mechanical inhomogeneities impacts, and optimal operating pressure assessment.
- Perform abusive testing related to mechanical aspects, including crush, drop, nail penetration, and pressure testing for cell sampling.
Mechanical Modelling
- Ownership of development cell sample designs such as pouch cell drawings
- Develop dimensions and tolerances of the assemblies together with process engineering to ensure compatibility with the manufacturing process.
- Design optimal solutions to mitigate system-related energy loss, aging, induced cost, and thermal management impacts, considering tradeoffs between heat dissipation, thermal propagation, and mechanical buffer.
- Ensure requirement fulfilment of your design, you will take part in validation result reviews.
- Collaborate in DFMEA.
- Collaborate with battery simulation engineers to get results on performance related to thermal and swell behavior.
- Validate mechanical requirements for cell integration into systems (module or pack).
- Approaching different sample phase, quality and manufacturability will be in the spotlight. Necessary changes need to happen quickly, requiring coordinated work with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
