R&D MATERIAL ENGINEER

Your role:
R&D Material Engineer is responsible for spearheading the advancement of electrolyte formulations desired for proper interfacial layer and processes for solid-state,semi-solid-state liquid battery technologies. This role entails leading electrolyte development projects, optimizing formulations for enhanced performance, and fostering strategic collaborations with suppliers.
Main functions:
Electrolyte Formulation Development:
- Lead electrolyte development projects to achieve project goals and meet milestone deliverables.
Develop electrolyte formulations tailored for fast charging in semi-solid,solid-state liquid battery configurations.
Optimize electrolyte composition and properties to enhance cell performance and safety.
Supplier Network Building:
- Establish and maintain a network of suppliers for electrolyte components and materials.
- Identify and assess promising suppliers aligning with strategic business objectives.
Interface Improvement and Optimization:
- Drive efforts to improve the interface between electrolyte and semi-solid, solid-state components, particularly at high voltage.
- Analyze the behavior of electrolyte interfaces with electrodes and solid-state components.
Formulation and Optimization:
- Optimize electrolyte formulations to maximize energy density and safety of Li-ion cell technology.
- Conduct comprehensive studies on various electrolyte materials and develop technical roadmaps and strategies for their implementation.
Collaboration and Intellectual Property Strengthening:
- Identify opportunities and generate innovative ideas to strengthen intellectual properties related to electrolyte formulations and processes.
- Develop expertise in the field and explore novel techniques to contribute to the expansion of the knowledge domain.
- Lead collaborative initiatives with electrolyte component suppliers to drive innovation and enhance intellectual property.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and protocols in all research and development activities.
- Champion a culture of safety awareness and adherence within the R&D team.
- Participate in HSE training programs to promote continuous improvement in safety practices.

Requirements
- PhD in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science, with a specialization in lithium batteries and related electrochemical systems.
- Strong laboratory experience with a focus on electrolyte development and characterization proven by publications or patents.
- Proficiency in battery assembly and electrochemical characterization.
- Proven track record in developing collaboration strategies and executing collaborative projects with suppliers.
- Over 4 years of industrial experience in electrolyte material development and qualification or PhD in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
- Demonstrated expertise in scaling up efforts between materials development, cell design, and manufacturing.
- Proficient in managing technicians and leading collaborative projects.
- Hands-on experience with non-destructive battery cell analysis tools including deep understanding electrochemistry.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Spanish.
