Basque Country, Spain, July 17, 2025 – Basquevolt has been awarded a €2.5 million grant by the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator program, with the possibility of an additional €10 million equity investment in the next capital raising round. The company received a top evaluation score (9/9), recognizing its innovative solid-state electrolyte technology and its alignment with the EU’s battery value chain strategy.
“This is a breakthrough technology that will have a significant impact for the European market. It aligns with EU strategic priorities and will be of strategic importance for the European EV industry” stated the jury members.
Chosen among 40 companies out of 1,000 applicants (4% success rate), Basquevolt’s selection validates its potential to become a leading European electrolyte supplier for solid-state batteries. Its breakthrough electrolyte enables over 50% higher energy density than traditional batteries, improving electric vehicle range and safety, while supporting sustainable urban mobility.
The grant will accelerate the industrialization of its technology, which can be integrated into existing lithium-ion battery production lines—reducing costs and speeding market adoption. This positions Basquevolt as a key player in Europe’s energy transition.
Led by Managing Director Pablo Fernández Santos since March 2025, Basquevolt’s growth is backed by strategic partners including the Basque Government, CIC energiGUNE, Iberdrola, CDTI Innvierte, Enagás, InnoEnergy, Ekarpen, Stellum and CIE Automotive. The EIC also highlighted the strength of Basquevolt’s collaboration with CIC energiGUNE, a leading R&D center in solid-state batteries.
This recognition affirms Basquevolt’s role in advancing Europe’s next-generation battery technology for electric mobility and energy storage solutions. The company, which also began 2025 by partnering with two major automotive OEMs, is making significant progress in scaling up its industrial rollout.
